Actors in Good Faith. The Test
Polski Theatre named after Arnold Szyfman in Warsaw, Poland
The performance consists of two one-act plays by Pierre de Marivaux - "Actors in Good Faith" and "The Test" - translated by Jerzy Radziwiłowicz.
"Actors in Good Faith" tells of preparations for a theatrical performance meant to celebrate the wedding of a young couple. The household members begin rehearsals with the best of intentions, unaware that fiction will soon intertwine with reality, and theatrical play will transform into a psychodrama session. "The Test" is the story of another couple: he comes from a good family, she has not a penny to her name. The future groom decides to test the sincerity of his beloved's feelings by entangling her in a staged romantic intrigue.
With Marivaux, everything begins as a game meant to lead the characters to recognize their own emotions - and that is exactly what happens. The problem is that the game often spirals beyond control and reveals what many would prefer to keep hidden.
