Fat Freddy's Drop is a seven-piece band from Wellington, New Zealand, whose sound weaves together dub, reggae, soul, jazz and funk into something that resists easy labelling. Formed in the Wellington club scene in the late 1990s, they broke through internationally with their debut studio album Based on a True Story (2005). Their live shows - built on years of improvisation and long-form jamming - have earned them a reputation as one of the world's most compelling live acts. Their seventh studio album, SLO MO, came out in November 2024.
Fat Freddy's Drop launched the European leg of their Based on a True Story 21st Anniversary Tour, with debut shows in Budapest and Zagreb before continuing to Munich and Cologne.
Founding member and beatmaker Chris 'MU' Faiumu died unexpectedly on 16 July 2025.
The band released their seventh studio album SLO MO on 8 November 2024, following a vinyl-first drop on 25 October.
The SLO MO album tour hit Australia in March 2025, covering Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth fresh off 37 European shows.
