Franz Lehár (1870–1948) was an Austro-Hungarian composer of operettas of Hungarian origin. He achieved worldwide fame with The Merry Widow (1905), one of the most frequently performed operettas in the world. Lehár is regarded as the most significant figure of 20th-century Viennese operetta.
