Hildur Guðnadóttir (born 1982, Reykjavík) is an Icelandic composer, cellist and singer whose work moves between contemporary classical, ambient and experimental music. She won the Academy Award, Golden Globe and BAFTA for her score to Joker (2019) and an Emmy for the Chernobyl miniseries, making her one of the most decorated film composers of her generation. Beyond film, she has released a series of critically acclaimed solo albums and performs her music live with a close circle of long-time collaborators.
Guðnadóttir announced her new orchestral album 'This Will Be Us' (due October 2026), recorded with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin and conductor Robert Ames, marking the 20th anniversary of her debut album Mount A.
She served as Associate Artist of Holland Festival and Artist in Residence at Reykjavík Arts Festival in summer 2026, curating a programme of orchestral concerts, new commissions and chamber performances.
Her score for Maggie Gyllenhaal's film The Bride! was released via WaterTower Music on 27 February 2026.
Her debut Deutsche Grammophon studio album 'Where to From' was released on 31 October 2025, featuring nine tracks grown from melodic fragments she first recorded on her phone.
Guðnadóttir received the Career Achievement Award at the 21st Zurich Film Festival in October 2025.
