Valentina Magaletti & YPY, KMRU, Chris Ryan Williams
Valentina Magaletti & YPY, KMRU, and Chris Ryan Williams bring experimental sounds to the MS Stubnitz in Hamburg.
Joseph Kamaru, known as KMRU, is a Nairobi-born, Berlin-based sound artist whose practice spans field recording, noise, machine learning, and drone composition. His 2020 album Peel on Editions Mego brought him international attention, and he has since built one of the most prolific discographies in contemporary experimental music - nearly 20 releases between 2017 and 2021 alone. He also manages reissues of music by his grandfather, the celebrated Kenyan benga musician and activist Joseph Kamaru.
KMRU's sound work was featured in 'Oceanic Refractions', a project selected for the Curators Pavilion of the 19th Venice Architecture Biennale (May 10 - November 23, 2025).
KMRU released the album 'With Trees Where We Can See' in 2025, continuing his prolific output.
KMRU released 'Forge', a 10-track solo album praised by critics as among his best work of the year, alongside the collaborative album 'Temporary Stored II' and the album 'Natur' on Touch.
KMRU released 'Natur' on the Touch label, a suite built using electromagnetic microphones to capture the invisible signals of city life.
KMRU released 'Disconnect', a collaborative album with British producer Kevin Richard Martin (The Bug), featuring KMRU's own vocals across six tracks.
