About

Modern English are a British post-punk and new wave band formed in Colchester, Essex, in 1979. They broke through with "I Melt with You" (1982), which reached #7 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart and became one of the defining songs of the new wave era - later gaining fresh audiences through its placement in the film Valley Girl and the TV series Stranger Things. The band has released nine studio albums, most recently "1 2 3 4" in 2024, and continues to tour actively with their classic lineup of Robbie Grey, Gary McDowell, Mick Conroy and Stephen Walker.
