Soulfly is an American heavy metal band founded in 1997 by Max Cavalera after his departure from Sepultura. Based in Phoenix, Arizona, the band weaves thrash and groove metal with tribal percussion and Brazilian folk influences - a sound that has carried across 13 studio albums. Their self-titled debut (1998) went Gold in the US, while 'Primitive' (2000) reached #32 on the Billboard 200, featuring guest appearances by Corey Taylor and Tom Araya.
