The Roots is an American hip-hop group from Philadelphia, active since 1987. They are known for performing with live instruments, setting them apart from most hip-hop acts. The group has collaborated with artists such as Erykah Badu and John Legend, and since 2009 has served as the house band on The Tonight Show.
