Shakespeare's most famous "hellride", here distilled to its blazing core: Macbeth and his Lady don't merely dream of seizing the Scottish crown - they carry out their plans with ruthless brutality, until they plunge into the abyss of their own ambition.

John von Düffel's adaptation keeps the focus squarely on the couple's relationship. The play, laced with power games and murder, is trimmed so deftly that the cycle of madness and violence stays clear throughout - and Shakespeare's dark humour never gets lost.
