(New) "Other Shores" — Humboldtsaal im Freiburger Hof, Freiburg im Breisgau

Berlin. Charlottenburg (2026) is the third and final part of a trilogy by Russian dramatist, director, and writer Marina Davydova (in exile since 2022). Following her first two productions Eternal Russia (Berlin, 2017) and Museum of Uncounted Voices (Vienna Festival Weeks and Freiburg 2023), Davydova returns to her central theme: the interweaving of history, memory, and the present. Like her previous works, the piece moves between theatre, performance, and philosophy of history. The protagonist - an actress in exile - encounters voices and ghosts, above all the spirit of Berlin: a city between freedom, political upheaval, and exile, then and now.

The title references Vladimir Nabokov's autobiographical text Other Shores (1951). Nabokov also appears in Davydova's piece - and unsettles.

The world premiere is planned for the "Voices" festival in Berlin in November 2026. In Freiburg, text excerpts will be presented beforehand: Marina Weis and Henry Meyer read, Marina Davydova comments. Pianist Nikolaj Medvedev accompanies the reading with works by Alexander Scriabin, Sergei Prokofiev, Claude Debussy, George Gershwin, and Victor Ullmann.

The event takes place in cooperation with the Tsvetaeva Centre at the University of Freiburg and Henschel Publishers.
