Monika Kampmann - Et lila Hätz op der Zung - Matinée

Monika Kampmann is a singer and songwriter - and one of the most renowned exponents of the Cologne dialect. In her songs, she demonstrates that Cologne German rivals standard German in richness of vocabulary, sound, and imagery. Her socially and politically engaged songs - many in standard German - address equality, emancipation, environmental protection, discrimination, social inequality, and gender stereotypes. Pieces like "Kennst du das Land, wo die Emanzen blüh'n?" (an allusion to Goethe's "Kennst du das Land, wo die Zitronen blüh'n") have remained in her repertoire for decades without losing their relevance.

For her commitment to the Cologne language and cultural traditions, Kampmann has received numerous honours, including the Grand Medal of Honour of the Akademie för uns kölsche Sproch (1990), the title Magister Lingue et Humoris Coloniensis (1995), the SeverinsBürgerpreis (1996), the Rheinlandtaler (4 September 2000), and the Medal of Merit of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany (19 June 2004).

Since 1988, she has regularly performed on the Senftöpfchen stage; all premieres of her programmes and performances of new CDs took place there. She worked closely with her stage partners Ingrid Ittel-Fernau, Barbara von Sell, and Lilian Westphal ("Die wohltemperierten Frauenzimmer"). At the end of this year, Monika Kampmann bids farewell to the stage with "Cologne Christmas" - after 50 years of performing. To this day, she performs in lilac and brings her lilac stool with her.
