When Heinrich Del Core tells his everyday stories in his red shoes, you want to shout: "Come on! That can't have happened - he must have made it up!" But every single one of these situations, which have us laughing in disbelief, he actually lived through himself. Heinrich Del Core is a magnet for bizarre everyday moments, which he then delivers with an irresistibly funny charm.
And now the moment has arrived: Heinrich is becoming a grandpa. Or to put it another way - his wife is becoming a grandma!
The new situation turns everything upside down. Overnight, Del Core's world is a different place. He buys a pram that costs as much as a moped used to - or a Thermomix today. He downloads baby apps for his wife and bakes a Bundt cake for family coffee gatherings. Then there's a wedding on top of it all - eco-friendly and vegan. But it's hard to feel truly festive when you're supposed to throw unpeeled wholegrain rice at the newlyweds.
Grandparents do have a way of making problems disappear, though. Take the bedroom: how often has a good night's sleep been ruined by the wife's cold feet, the endless battle over the duvet, or a husband who rivals a leaf blower in volume and airflow? When the grandchild comes to visit at the weekend, Heinrich simply has to move out.
That does a number on your self-confidence. And doesn't "grandpa" just sound ancient? He still feels young at heart - except in the mornings when he gets up. That's when his joints sometimes make noises. But his wife always builds him back up: "Heinrich, you're really in great shape". She seems to be handling the whole thing much better anyway. She says: "Being a grandma is like being a mum - only nicer". She never worried about getting older. Once she left the kids a note: "Gone to the cemetery". And Heinrich added underneath: "But we'll be back".
Despite all the changes...
