Olaf Schubert and his Friends
Stadthalle Korbach, Germany
42 €
That a thinker of Olaf Schubert's calibre knows the answer to every question is common knowledge. But now he's taking the next big step - he's asking the questions. Important questions, like "Jetzt oder now?". In other words, a question that questions itself. The fact that the tail bites its own face is precisely the artist's intention.
In this way, he created a programme title with an international ring to it. This shows us that Schubert is now multilingual - perhaps even bilingual. At the peak of the globalization iceberg, the whole world lies open before him. Yet he remains faithful to us, because he gives concerts in Germany - not many, but roughly 745. This proves he has achieved what only a few manage: to stay grounded despite gigantic success. He wants to be an Olaf you can touch. Unfortunately, hardly anyone does, as he recently confessed to a major news magazine. On stage, Schubert completely reinvents himself, and that's exactly why he stays true to himself. He follows his path consistently, but he's not one to cross red lines. No - he undermines them. Yellow lines, on the other hand, he jumps over. This allows him to shift boundaries, including invisible ones, in all directions simultaneously.
How he manages this, he probably doesn't know himself. But watching him during his show is a magnificent fascination, because even this or that rocket gets launched in the process.
That's why almost everyone (even his grandmother) who has ever seen him live simply says, deeply moved: Thank you, Olaf!
His friends Jochen M. Barkas and Herr Stephan are, of course, with him as always.
