The two-time ECHO Award winner Ramón Ortega Quero is regarded worldwide as one of the most inspiring musicians of his generation. In September 2007, he won the rarely awarded First Prize at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, as well as all special prizes. In the 2010/11 season, the European Concert Hall Organisation nominated him as a "Rising Star". He is a fellow of the Borletti Buitoni Trust London. Since 2008, Ramón Ortega Quero has been principal oboe of the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra under conductors Mariss Jansons and Sir Simon Rattle.

As a soloist, he regularly performs with leading international orchestras, including the Vienna Symphonists, the Berlin Concert Hall Orchestra, the MDR Symphony Orchestra, the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, the Basel Symphony Orchestra, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Potsdam Chamber Academy, the São Paulo Symphony Orchestra, the Prague Philharmonia, the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra, the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, the Hong Kong Sinfonietta, the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and the Düsseldorf Symphonists.

In the field of chamber music, Ramón Ortega Quero has performed with Elena Bashkirova, Kit Armstrong and Mitsuko Uchida at concert series in Vienna, Salzburg, Baden-Baden, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Berlin, Hannover, Valencia, Cologne and Vancouver, as well as at international festivals in Gstaad, Jerusalem, Heidelberger Frühling, Lucerne Festival, Festspielen Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Rheingau Musik Festival. In 2015, Ramón Ortega Quero gave the world premiere of the oboe concerto Legacy dedicated to him, composed by Oscar Navarro. In 2016, he made his debut recital at Carnegie Hall. In the 2018/19 season, he was Artist in Residence with the Orquesta Ciudad de Granada.
