Long, long ago, dragons lived and protected the world from the icy cold with the warmth of their fire. Over time, ice began to destroy all life. Arktos, a terrible snowman, seeks to cover the world in ice. The old dragon Tyrion wants to prepare his young son Tabaluga for his destined mission - to protect the world. To do this, Tabaluga must find the True Fire, for only then can he end Arktos' schemes.

Tabaluga sets out on his journey with the help of a wizard. He faces many dangers, such as the spider woman Tarantula, but also discovers beautiful things. He learns that the world, with all its good and evil, is wonderful and worth saving. But Arktos has no intention of letting Tabaluga fulfill his destiny. From pure ice, he creates a beautiful being - the girl Lilli, whose only task is to distract Tabaluga from his search for the True Fire.
