Tunnel Tour - Underground Traces in Wetzlar

This is "the other city tour" - dedicated to one of the darkest chapters in Wetzlar's history. During the Second World War, Wetzlar was a hub of advanced military technology. When the bombing campaign reached the city, industrial companies moved their production underground: prisoners of war and local miners blasted vast tunnel systems into the surrounding hills and mountains, where opticians and mechanics, working alongside forced labourers, kept war-critical manufacturing running. The civilian population of Wetzlar also found shelter here from the air raids.

The camouflage was so effective that the Americans only discovered these underground facilities when they marched into the city - they had completely missed them until that moment.

The tour is suitable for young people aged 14 and over, accompanied by adults. Children under 14 cannot participate.
