The Book Walker
St. Ursula-Realschule, Dorsten, Germany
based on the novel by Carsten Henn
Every evening, after the bookshop has closed its doors, bookseller Carl Kollhoff sets out to visit his special customers - those who truly cherish the books he has chosen for them, delivered right to their homes. For them, he is the most important link to an ever more confusing world. His evening visits give them a little meaning and take away their loneliness. And his own, too. Because when he comes home, emptiness is all that waits for him.
Then Schascha turns up.
She is nine years old and full of questions. The book walker quickly realises he has suddenly acquired a precocious companion. She injects his daily routine with energy and turns every habit upside down. But then fate strikes. It starts with a notice of dismissal from the bookshop, and the blows keep coming. Schascha is the one who sees the danger. With sheer force of will, she rallies Carl's book-loving friends to save him. It is a race against time, because the abyss Carl is falling into runs deep. But their allies are books and imagination.
