Love Lessons
Pieter Smit Theater Rock Polska, Łódź, Poland
"Love Lessons" is an intimate comedy by Flavia Coste presented at Pieter Smit Theater Rock Polska (Łódź, ul. Nowogrodzka 2b). The production poses fundamental questions about the nature of relationships — notably, whether an advice columnist for a women's magazine will prove to be a true expert on matters of the heart.
Direction: Sławomir Narloch. Set design and costumes: Maks Mac. Music: Jakub Gawlik. Lighting design: Karolina Gębska. Cast: Magda Zając Zawadzka, Artur Zawadzki, Jakub Kryształ/Kamil Suszczyk. Featuring Paweł Majchowski (accordion).
Director Sławomir Narloch on the production: "This will be a play about love. About the nature of a feeling stretched between youthful fantasy and hard work consisting of patience and care for another person. About love that, by wanting to be at the center of attention, brings our lives to absurdity. The hallmark of good comedy is that it can speak about the most serious matters with distance. It cannot be called a comedy if it does not cunningly and maliciously creep into our weaknesses and problems."
The production was created as part of a collaboration with the Department of Directing at the Theatre Academy in Warsaw, through which students and graduates realize premieres of contemporary comedies on the Small Stage. In the previous season, director Magdalena Małecka-Wippich staged the play "Replay" in this series.
