Betty Carter was an American jazz vocalist known for her adventurous improvisational style and deep command of bebop. She ran her own record label, Bet-Car Productions, and mentored a generation of jazz musicians who passed through her trio. Her 1987 album "Look What I Got!" won a Grammy Award.
