Bilal (born Bilal Sayeed Oliver, August 23, 1979, Philadelphia) is a Grammy-winning American singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist whose work spans progressive soul, neo-soul, jazz, and R&B. Trained at The New School in New York, he broke through with the 2001 debut 1st Born Second and went on to collaborate with Kendrick Lamar, Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Common, Robert Glasper, and Questlove, among others. A former member of the Soulquarians collective, he is widely regarded as one of the most distinctive and adventurous voices in contemporary Black music.
