About

Embryo is a Munich-based musical collective founded in 1969 by multi-instrumentalist Christian Burchard and saxophonist Edgar Hofmann, widely regarded as one of the most eclectic bands to emerge from the krautrock scene. Over more than five decades they have woven jazz, rock, and the folk traditions of North Africa, the Middle East, India, and Asia into a restlessly evolving sound, collaborating with over 400 musicians along the way. Since the death of founder Christian Burchard in 2018, his daughter Marja Burchard has led the group, keeping its spirit of open-ended improvisation very much alive.
