JEFF BECK by GREASE MONKEY
A tribute to guitar legend Jeff Beck performed by Grease Monkey. An evening of classic compositions and guitar virtuosity.
Jeff Beck (1944-2023) was a British guitarist widely regarded as one of the most inventive players in rock history. He came to prominence replacing Eric Clapton in the Yardbirds in 1965, then led the Jeff Beck Group - featuring Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood - before forging a long solo career that ranged from hard rock and blues to jazz fusion and electronica. Over six decades he won eight Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame twice: as a Yardbird in 1992 and as a solo artist in 2009.
Beck's debut album Truth and its follow-up Beck-Ola were remastered by Barry Grint at Air Studios and reissued on coloured vinyl by Parlophone Records on 27 June 2025.
Beck's guitar collection sold at Christie's London for a total of $10.7 million - more than eight times the pre-sale estimate - with bidders from 40 countries competing.
Beck's 1954 'Oxblood' Gibson Les Paul, featured on the cover of Blow by Blow, sold for £1,068,500 - setting a new record for a Les Paul at auction.
A recording Beck made with Mark Knopfler - the charity single 'Going Home', released in March 2024 - was widely considered his final studio appearance.
Jeff Beck died on 10 January 2023 at the age of 78 after suddenly contracting bacterial meningitis.
