Steve Vai is an American guitarist, songwriter, and producer born in 1960 in Carle Place, New York, who began his career as a transcriptionist for Frank Zappa at age 18. A three-time Grammy winner, he went on to play with Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth, and Whitesnake before building a solo catalog that spans over 11 albums - most notably the landmark 1990 record Passion and Warfare. Widely regarded as one of the most technically accomplished rock guitarists alive, he has sold over 15 million records worldwide.
