Moodymann is the alias of Kenny Dixon Jr., a Detroit-based DJ and producer who has been a central figure in deep house and techno since the early 1990s. His music draws on soul, funk, jazz and blues, reworked through a distinctly Black Detroit lens - a sound he releases largely on his own Mahogani Music and KDJ Records labels. He is famously private: he rarely gives interviews, often DJs behind a screen, and keeps his face out of press photos. Beyond music, he gained a new generation of fans when Rockstar Games cast him as a fully realized character, 'Kenny', in GTA Online.
Moodymann performed at the Outwards Festival in Manchester (May 2, 2026) and at FVTVR in Paris (May 9, 2026) as part of a 'Detroit Love' bill alongside Carl Craig, Mike Banks and Juan Atkins.
Moodymann was booked for the Beyond the Pale Festival in Wicklow, Ireland (June 12-14, 2026) and Field Day at Victoria Park in London (June 13, 2026).
Moodymann played a hometown show at Lincoln Factory in Detroit on December 19, 2025.
Moodymann logged 23 live appearances in 2025, continuing an active touring schedule across Europe, North America and Australia.
Rockstar Games cast Moodymann as a fully realized in-game character 'Kenny' in GTA Online's Los Santos Tuners update, where he also debuted an exclusive mix 'Kenny's Backyard Boogie Mix' featuring collaborations with Channel Tres, Gangsta Boo and Prince guitarist Jessie Johnson.
