Primus is an American rock band from El Sobrante, California, formed in 1984 by bassist and vocalist Les Claypool. Their sound defies easy categorization - funk, metal, punk and experimental elements collide around Claypool's virtuosic slap bass, making them one of the most distinctive acts to emerge from the early-90s alt-rock scene. Albums like "Sailing the Seas of Cheese" (1991) and "Pork Soda" (1993, platinum) brought them mainstream recognition, and they also wrote the original theme for the TV show "South Park".
