Renaud Garcia-Fons (born 24 December 1962 near Paris) is a French double bassist and composer of Catalan origin, widely nicknamed "the Paganini of double bass" for his extraordinary bow technique and melodic invention. He plays a custom five-string instrument and draws on jazz, flamenco, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern and classical traditions to forge a style that is instantly his own. Trained at the Paris Conservatoire under François Rabbath, he has released more than twenty albums - mostly on Enja Records - and performed at major jazz festivals worldwide.
