About

Skalpel are Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło, a DJ and production duo from Wrocław who have been active since 1998. Their sound is built on samples from Polish jazz records of the 1960s and 70s - artists like Krzysztof Komeda and Tomasz Stańko - reworked through hip-hop beats, downtempo and drum and bass. Signed to London's Ninja Tune after their demo CD-R caught the label's attention in 2001, they broke through internationally with their self-titled debut in 2004, which is now considered a landmark of nu-jazz and jazztronics. They are recipients of the Paszport Polityki award and have released albums on Ninja Tune and !K7 Records.
