Blockhead is the stage name of Tony Simon (born 1976), a New York City hip-hop producer and DJ who built his reputation on sample-based beats and atmospheric instrumental compositions. He first gained wider recognition producing tracks for Aesop Rock on the underground classic Labor Days (2001), then launched a solo career on Ninja Tune with Music by Cavelight (2004) - a record that placed him alongside DJ Shadow and RJD2 as a key figure in instrumental hip-hop. Over two decades he has released more than a dozen albums across Ninja Tune, Rhymesayers, Backwoodz Studioz, and Future Archive Recordings.
Blockhead released his new album Mortality Is Lit! on November 22, 2024, via Future Archive Recordings.
Ninja Tune released a 20th-anniversary 4xLP reissue of Music by Cavelight on September 27, 2024, including previously unreleased Lost Files from 1999-2003.
Blockhead toured North America in support of Mortality Is Lit!, including a co-headlining date with TEEBS in Los Angeles on March 26, 2025.
