About

Thees Uhlmann is a German singer-songwriter, guitarist and author from Hemmoor, Lower Saxony. He fronted the Hamburg indie-rock band Tomte from the mid-1990s until their hiatus around 2010, then launched a solo career on his own label Grand Hotel van Cleef. His 2017 debut novel "Sophia, der Tod und ich" became a bestseller and was adapted into a film by Charly Hübner in 2023. Often compared to Bruce Springsteen in the German press, he is one of the most distinctive voices in German-language indie rock.
