Newly Translated: Timothée de Fombelle and Karine Tuil - Freiburg Print with Tobias Scheffel and Maja Ueberle-Pfaff
SWR Studio Freiburg, Freiburg im Breisgau, Germany
9 €
Two new translations from French take centre stage this evening: Tobias Scheffel and Maja Ueberle-Pfaff, both long familiar with "their" authors, present their latest work.
Timothée de Fombelle's "The Life We Will Never Have" (dtv, 2026) tells of an escape into thought during the time of the Resistance - praised for its "dazzling beauty" (Le Figaro). Karine Tuil's "The Love-Hungry" (dtv, 2026) traces with analytical precision and "a good measure of malice" (SZ) the tightrope walk between triumph and loss for France's political and artistic elite.
Scheffel and Ueberle-Pfaff discuss both books, the spaces between languages and between people, with Viola Maury (SWR). Reading and conversation on 13 October 2026, 7:30 pm at SWR Studio Freiburg, Schlossbergsaal, Kartäuserstraße 45. Admission: 9/6 euros.
