Hans Werner Olm - HATTA? Er hat!
Stadtkulturhaus Borna, Germany
32 €
The title HATTA comes from one of his best-known TV and stage sketches. It describes a heavy-set male specimen - with smelly feet and a few petty character flaws - gazing in awe at a limousine he could never afford. Olm has, in the truest sense, achieved it all: a certain virtuousness, humorous wisdom, and solid composure.
With this show he takes his audience on a journey that pushes right to the edges of one's own existence - relaxed and laid-back, musical and recitative. Hatta is a metaphor for self-confidence, resilience, and the indispensable belief in and acceptance of life as it is. A stoic guide helps him along the way, one that holds it is not external circumstances - which we cannot influence anyway - that make us helpless and jittery, but rather the mostly destructive interpretations we place on our thoughts about them.
His fans make pilgrimages to theatres and cheer on the master of sharp-edged mischief. Olm makes no effort to please. It is raw and authentic. He cultivates qualities that, in today's smoothed-over world, amount to a positively anarchic art form. He proves that the Pavlovian reflex effortlessly crosses every social boundary. His performances carry an immense, life-altering energy.
