"Betti Kruse makes cool Motown-and-chanson Schlager, the kind that nobody made in the 60s and 70s - unfortunately." ByteFM
Betti Kruse stands for Neue Deutsche Beatmusik - entertainment with a point of view. Her songs are charming, catchy and danceable, but always with a sharp edge. Drawing on the silky orchestral sound of James Last, the brilliant melodies of Bert Kaempfert, the wry and witty lyrics of Hildegard Knef, and the laid-back guitars of the Motown era, she writes - together with producer Taco van Hettinga - music that ByteFM calls "cool chanson-Schlager", "the kind that nobody made in the 60s and 70s, unfortunately".
On her debut album "Wird schon gutgehn", everyday observations collide with big questions, and lightness sits alongside real depth. The eleven tracks bring together the already acclaimed EP Für alles gibt's ne Lösung with brand-new material - a blend of winking social commentary, very personal stories, and unabashed joy.
There's "Jeden Tag da fährt ein Zug", a song about small moments of human connection between Glückstadt and Itzehoe. And "Schade", which casts a weary eye on our obsession with self-improvement - and on the irony of escaping the trap yourself just as your partner stumbles straight into it.
"Die Liebe ist ein mieser Gangster" revisits Betti's single-life past - not with longing, but with a knowing smile and ten years of perspective. "Nur nicht bei Dir" is a tender ode to the kind of love where you can be completely yourself.
The title track "Wird schon gutgehn" looks at getting older with cheerful self-deprecation: when life runs too smoothly, it risks becoming dull - so a few stumbling blocks might not be such a bad thing. And in "High", probably the album's most intense track, Betti tells the story of a woman's brief, flickering happiness as a night at the pub offers a moment's escape from her boss and the daily grind.
