Altstadtkonzert "Heimspiel" with Hendrik Späth and the Percussion Class of Hochschule für Musik Trossingen - Percussion pur
Stadthalle Wangen, Wangen im Allgäu, Germany
The percussion world is a realm full of tonal colours, curiosity, and cultural diversity. Professor Jochen Schorer and the percussion class of Hochschule für Musik Trossingen embody this very openness. Under the motto "Heimspiel", the Trossingen percussion ensemble presents a diverse and in many ways surprising programme. Hendrik Späth, a musician from Wangen, has been part of Professor Jochen Schorer's percussion class at HfM Trossingen since 2025. His musical career began in 2011 at the Jugendmusikschule Württembergisches Allgäu as a student of Uwe Eichele and later Matthias Jakob. In addition to several prizes at the Jugend Musiziert competition, Hendrik has played in various ensembles including the Stadtkapelle Wangen and the Städteorchester Württembergisches Allgäu. Since 2021, he has earned a place in the Kreisverbandsjugendblasorchester Ravensburg, Landesjugend-Percussionensemble, and subsequently the Landesjugend-Jazzorchester and Bundesjugend-Percussionensemble.
At the Wangen concert, marimba and vibraphone take centre stage, complemented by instruments from around the world that the students not only perform but also demonstrate and explain. The world of percussion has evolved rapidly since the mid-20th century, reflecting the globalisation of music and its boundless creativity in a unique way. For the audience, it is easy to experience modern and contemporary music in an unexpected way, as it appeals not only to the ear but also to the eye. In Wangen, listeners will enjoy some classics and new works from the percussion repertoire, inspired by Asian temple sounds, African rhythms, European avant-garde of the 1980s, and American popular music.
