SEEPFERDCHEN MIT SECHZIG! — Professorenhaus, Lingen

Let's not beat around the bush: at sixty, the third third of life begins.

That's when you need to weigh what still needs doing, what can still be accomplished. If your favourite team can't make it to the top, you have to take matters into your own hands. And his wife dreams of conquering Zugspitze. Oops! But thank goodness - they have a cable car! Yet things don't go as he hoped. And that comes with consequences and conditions: Bernd Gieseking gives up Haribo sweets and buys an annual pass to the public swimming pool. He discovers that a fifty-metre lane is more than twice as long as a twenty-five-metre lane! Suddenly another hurdle appears: the "seahorse" swimming badge exam, which Gieseking has never passed because he's so old that the badge didn't even exist when he was young!

An evening about growing older, but also about happiness, about aging parents, about ups and downs, about fitness and fat cells, about scales and courage, about jogging clothes that shouldn't look faster than their wearer can run. Bernd Gieseking recalls a youth in wooden clogs and philosophises about the art of leisurely strolling.

Bernd Gieseking grew up just twelve kilometres from the lowest point of East Westphalia. Anyone from there is no mountain type. His wife is a slender roe deer; he's more of a Galloway cattle kind of guy. As a starting point for the ascent, "Hell Valley" awaits him, but in the end he truly stands - with his audience - on the summit of Zugspitze!
