Helen Keller is an icon in both the Deaf community and among blind people: writer, activist, lecturer, and the first deafblind person to earn a degree from Harvard University. Anne Sullivan was her teacher, companion, and lifelong confidante. Before the two became world-famous, they were an unruly pupil and an unwavering teacher - bound together by a radical learning process that went far beyond conventional language.

A deaf and a hearing actress bring this story to the stage through puppetry, physical theatre, and a combination of spoken and sign language. They explore different forms of communication, making sign language and Braille tangible and sensory, and opening up new ways of thinking about perception and understanding.

After the show, there will be a discussion with the artistic team, moderated by cultural scholar Beate Absalon. The conversation will be in spoken English and Czech Sign Language with interpretation into German Sign Language (DGS). Audience questions can be asked in German, English, or DGS.

A DGS interpreter will be on site before and after the performance. Early boarding is available. Accessibility information: https://schaubude.berlin/de/barrierefreiheit/
