Helen Keller is regarded as an icon not only in the deaf community but also among blind people: writer, activist, lecturer and the first deafblind person to earn a degree from Harvard University. Anne Sullivan was her teacher, companion and lifelong confidante. Before they became world-famous, they were a spirited student and an unwavering teacher - bound together by a radical learning process beyond conventional language.

A deaf and a hearing actress bring this extraordinary story to the stage through puppet theatre, physical theatre, spoken word and sign language. They explore different forms of communication, make sign language and Braille tactilely tangible and open new perspectives on perception, language and understanding. An intense, poetic theatrical experience about resilience, imagination and the power of transcending boundaries.

Audience discussion

Following the performance, we invite you to an audience discussion with the artistic team moderated by cultural scholar Beate Absalon. The discussion takes place in English spoken language and Czech sign language and will be interpreted into German sign language. Audience questions can be asked in German sign language, English or German spoken language.
