Jewish Voices

The event series "Jewish Voices" explores the diversity and complexity of Jewish writing - from Isaac Bashevis Singer (the only Yiddish-language Nobel laureate in literature to date, awarded in 1978) through Jurek Becker, Zeruya Shalev and Yasmina Reza to contemporary, lesser-known poets. The series is produced in cooperation with Institut für Neue Soziale Plastik e.V., which has twice been a partner of the mini-festival "Jüdische Ossis".

The format varies from event to event: contemporary authors are invited and their texts made accessible via simultaneous translation, or ensemble members read already-translated or German-language texts - novel excerpts, novellas, plays or poems. Each reading is followed by an open conversation with the audience.

The series aims to raise the visibility of Jewish identity and culture at a time of growing antisemitism in the wake of 7 October 2023.
