Jewish Voices

Across several events, the focus is on the diversity and complexity of writing by Jewish authors: Isaac Bashevis Singer (the only Yiddish-language writer to have received the Nobel Prize in Literature, in 1978), Jurek Becker (writer and GDR dissident), Zeruya Shalev (Israeli novelist), Yasmina Reza (French playwright from a wide-ranging Jewish family), and entirely new, little-known contemporary poets.

In cooperation with Institut für Neue Soziale Plastik e.V. - an organisation that has twice been our partner at the mini-festival "Jüdische Ossis" - we aim to give Jewish identity and culture a voice and a public platform at a time of growing exclusion of Jewish life and rising antisemitism following 7 October 2023.

The plan is to invite contemporary authors and present their work through simultaneous interpretation, or to have ensemble members read already-translated or German-language texts. These may be excerpts from novels, novellas, plays, or poems. Each event closes with an open conversation.
