"I Wanted to Be" is a comedy inspired by the figure of Krzysztof Krawczyk – not his biography, but the director's subjective perspective on the phenomenon of the artist and the man. Screenplay and direction: Michał Siegoczyński.

"We draw inspiration from Krzysztof Krawczyk's figure to touch upon the paradox of being a star. Show-business stars function as mythologized figures detached from reality. Success and popularity strip them of human qualities, yet in everyday life they are ordinary people of flesh and blood – with the same problems as everyone else. What interests me most is precisely this rupture between the stage image and so-called normal life," says Michał Siegoczyński. "Krzysztof Krawczyk's biography is a story of highs and lows, great popularity in Poland, and at the same time a certain dissatisfaction connected with touring in the United States. Krawczyk's private story is a sequence of various disappointments and dramas that don't fit the image of an icon of Polish pop culture. It is also a complete departure from religion, which later transformed into a deep faith in God, playing such an important role in his life."

When creating the screenplay, Siegoczyński drew inspiration from themes in the biography "Life Like Wine" co-authored by Krzysztof Krawczyk and Andrzej Kosmala. The license to use musical works was granted by the Authors' Association ZAiKS.

The production has won numerous audience awards: the title of Best Production of 2021 in the Plastry Kultury Plebiscite, the title of Best Production at the 16th Katowice Comedy Carnival, and Mariusz Ostrowski for his role as Krzysztof Krawczyk received the Audience Award (title of Best Bogusławski Actor) at the 63rd Festival of Acting Art (Kalisz Theatre Meetings) and the title of Best Actor at the XXVII International Festival of Pleasant and Unpleasant Arts.
