Bria Skonberg is a Canadian trumpeter, vocalist, and songwriter from Chilliwack, British Columbia, now based in New York City. She won the Juno Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year in 2017 and is a ten-time DownBeat Rising Star whose debut on Sony Masterworks reached the Top 5 on the Billboard jazz chart. The New York Times called her "the shining hope of hot jazz," and her seventh studio album What It Means, recorded in New Orleans, earned a five-star review from DownBeat.
Skonberg completed a 16-date Midwest Jazz Collective tour (March 5-27, 2026) spanning Illinois, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Missouri, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio and Michigan, including educational workshops at regional universities.
Two new studio albums are scheduled for release in 2026 - one trumpet-focused (titled Brass) and one vocal-forward project.
Skonberg was cited as a 10x DownBeat Rising Star and recipient of the Legend Award for the Preservation of the Great American Songbook.
Her seventh studio album What It Means was recorded in New Orleans and released in July 2024.
Skonberg performed as part of the Texas Tech University Presidential Lecture and Performance Series 2025-2026.
