About

Devendra Banhart is a Venezuelan-American singer-songwriter and visual artist born in Houston, Texas, who grew up in Caracas before settling in Los Angeles. He emerged in 2002 when Swans frontman Michael Gira released his debut on Young God Records, and quickly became a defining figure of the freak folk and New Weird America movements. His music weaves acoustic folk with psychedelia, Latin rhythms and surrealist lyrics - often switching between English and Spanish mid-set - and his parallel career as a visual artist has taken his drawings to galleries worldwide, including Art Basel.
