Eliades Ochoa (born 22 June 1946, Songo La Maya, Santiago de Cuba) is a Cuban guitarist, tres player and singer who has led Cuarteto Patria since 1978 and is one of the last surviving original members of the Buena Vista Social Club. His voice opens the iconic 'Chan Chan' on the Grammy-winning 1997 BVSC album, which brought him worldwide recognition after decades of building his craft in Santiago's Casa de la Trova. Known as 'Cuba's Johnny Cash' for his black cowboy hat and boots, he has since released nine solo albums and won four Latin Grammy Awards.
Ochoa performed at London's Barbican Centre on 22 April 2025 as part of the La Linea Festival, continuing his Guajiro Tour across Europe.
The Guajiro Tour took Ochoa to Lisbon, Porto, Barcelona and Paris in March 2025, with sold-out shows reported in Portugal.
Spanish festival La Mar de Músicas awarded Ochoa its annual prize in July 2024, recognising his role in bringing authentic Cuban music to the world.
Ochoa released his album 'Guajiro' on 26 May 2023 via World Circuit Records/BMG, featuring guest appearances by Rubén Blades, Charlie Musselwhite and Joan As Police Woman.
Ochoa collaborated with Spanish rapper C. Tangana on 'Muriendo de Envidia', featured on C. Tangana's acclaimed album 'El Madrileño'.
