Pink Martini is an American ensemble founded in Portland, Oregon in 1994 by pianist Thomas Lauderdale, who originally formed the group to provide music for political fundraisers. Lead vocalist China Forbes - a Harvard classmate of Lauderdale - joined in 1995, and together they built a band that performs in over 25 languages, blending jazz, classical, Latin and pop into a sound the bandleader once described as what the United Nations house band might have sounded like in 1962. With more than 3 million albums sold on their own Heinz Records label and collaborations with over 75 orchestras worldwide, the group has become one of the most internationally recognized American ensembles of its era.
