Garbage is an alternative rock band formed in Madison, Wisconsin in 1993, built around producer-drummer Butch Vig and his longtime collaborators Duke Erikson and Steve Marker, with Scottish vocalist Shirley Manson joining as frontwoman. Their self-titled 1995 debut went double platinum in the US, UK and Australia, and the follow-up Version 2.0 (1998) topped the UK Albums Chart and earned two Grammy nominations. Over eight studio albums the band has sold more than 17 million records worldwide, blending grunge, electronic production and sharp pop songcraft into a sound that remains instantly recognisable.
