Iiro Rantala
Finnish pianist Iiro Rantala performs at Centralstation in Darmstadt.
Iiro Rantala (born 1970 in Helsinki) is a Finnish pianist and composer who moves freely between jazz and classical music. He first made his name as the founder of Trio Töykeät, which toured over 40 countries and became one of the most celebrated Finnish jazz ensembles of the 1990s. After the trio disbanded in 2006, his 2011 ACT debut 'Lost Heroes' launched a second international career that has since produced orchestral works, film scores, and collaborations with the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen and the Berlin Philharmonic.
Rantala released 'Trinity', a jazz standards album recorded live at Château Palmer with bassist Kaisa Mäensivu and drummer Morten Lund, on ACT Music.
ACT Music released 'Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic XV', a duo recording of Rantala and Italian pianist Stefano Bollani performing Italian opera-inspired material.
Rantala performed with the Iiro Rantala HEL Trio at Porgy & Bess in Vienna in November 2025.
The Iiro Rantala HEL Trio released 'Tough Stuff' on ACT Music, featuring Conor Chaplin on bass and Anton Eger on drums.
Rantala is featured on 'Jazz at Berlin Philharmonic XVI: Piano Night II', alongside Leszek Możdżer, Michael Wollny, and Grégory Privat.
