About

The Wolfgang Press are an English post-punk band formed in London in 1983 by Michael Allen, Mark Cox and Andrew Gray - all veterans of early 4AD acts Rema-Rema and Mass. Signed to 4AD for their entire original run, they moved restlessly from dark, industrial post-punk through dub-inflected funk to the dance-floor grooves of Queer (1991), whose single 'A Girl Like You' reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Modern Rock chart. After disbanding in 1995, Allen and Gray reformed in 2024 with Andrew's brother Stephen Gray on synthesisers, releasing two albums on Downwards Records.
