Book Launch: My True Name Is Elisabeth

"I knew I would do it. Knock a hole in the wall of silence, squeeze through it. Look my grandmother in the eyes and say: Betsy."
"My True Name Is Elisabeth" is an autobiographical book in which Adèle Yon traces the fate of her great-grandmother - her institutionalisation and lobotomy. Weaving together family research, essay and self-interrogation, it became one of the biggest French literary events of last year and is now published in a translation by Sula Textor with Berlin Verlag.
In her TOLEDO journal, the translator describes how the language and speechlessness of the letters, conversations and inserted medical records continue inside her - as a physical shock.
Adèle Yon reads and speaks with translator Sula Textor. Hosted by Viktoria Feldhaus. Simultaneous interpretation: Katja Roloff. An event in cooperation with TOLEDO.
