Arktos, a terrible snowman, seeks to cover the world in ice. The old dragon Tyrion wants to prepare his small son Tabaluga for his destined task - protecting the world. To do this, Tabaluga must find the True Fire, for only then can he put an end to Arktos' schemes.

Tabaluga sets out on his journey with the support of a magician. He faces many dangers - such as the spider woman Tarantula - and discovers beautiful things. He learns that the world, with all its good and evil, is worth saving. But Arktos will not give up. He creates a beautiful being from pure ice - a girl named Lilli, whose only task is to distract Tabaluga from his search for the True Fire.

Tabaluga falls in love with Lilli, as Arktos planned, but through this he discovers a great and beautiful power - Love.
