FELIZ NAVIDAD! - Andalusian Christmas & Flamenco
Kloster Fürstenzell, Germany
33 €
Musicians and dancers embark on a journey through southern Spain, accompanied by spirited flamenco guitars, virtuosic cello, multi-part singing, and expressive dance.
Melodic, sometimes lively and cheerful, sometimes tender and melancholic Spanish Christmas carols (Villancicos) tell biblical stories connected to the birth of Christ - the futile search for lodging, the three kings (Los Reyes Magos), and shepherds at the manger. Faithful sailors appear ("Once there was a sailor...") alongside profligate coal merchants ("El Carbonero"). Near the Andalusian city of Huelva, we encounter pilgrims journeying to the Virgin of the Dew ("Virgen del Rocío"), while the Sevillana Biblica recounts Old Testament tales of infidelity and betrayal, of King David, fair Judith, of Samson and Delilah.
Ricardo Volkert guides viewers through a poetic Andalusian-Christmas world of images and tells compelling stories of land and people, saints and sinners, of Spain yesterday and today.
