Historic NME Train - from Berlin via Cottbus to Wroclaw — Hauptbahnhof Cottbus, Cottbus

1846 - 2026
The Niederschlesisch-Märkische Eisenbahn, or NME for short, was a private railway company whose main line, from 1846, connected Berlin with Wroclaw - then the second-largest city in the Kingdom of Prussia.

One of the Prussian railway projects was the 81-kilometre Berlin-Frankfurter Eisenbahn, built between 1840 and 1842 and opened on 23 October 1842. It ran from the Frankfurt Station (later the Silesian Station, today's Ostbahnhof) in Berlin via Fürstenwalde (Spree) to Frankfurt (Oder). The final section Legnica-Wroclaw of the NME route Frankfurt-Wroclaw was completed on 19 October 1844.

Unfortunately, the line from Guben via Sommerfeld (Lubsko) to Bienow is no longer in service. Work on restoring the Bienow - Lubsko section is already under way.

We mark "180 years of the Niederschlesisch-Märkische Eisenbahn - Berlin - Wroclaw" on an alternative routing, and from Cottbus aboard the historic express steam locomotive 01 1104, which was historically based in Wroclaw during the Second World War. At Zagan we join the original "birthday route". There the locomotive takes on water and we have a short stop to visit the railway history museum right at the station.

It will be a day full of railway history and interesting excursions in Wroclaw.

For those who can't get enough of railways, we also offer a RAILWAY EXCURSION: a Polish-German nostalgia train hauled by steam locomotive 01 1104! Ticket numbers are limited, however. Please note that this option leaves around 2 hours for exploring the city of Wroclaw.
