About

ASP is a German gothic rock and darkwave band from Frankfurt am Main, founded in 1999 by singer-songwriter Alexander Frank Spreng, who goes by the stage name "Asp". The band coined the term "Gothic Novel Rock" for their approach of building albums as serialized narrative cycles, often accompanied by illustrated books and theatrical live shows. Their 2008 double album Zaubererbruder - Der Krabat-Liederzyklus, a gothic rock opera based on the Sorbian Krabat legend, became their first German chart entry (top 15), cementing their reputation as one of the most distinctive acts in the German dark alternative scene.
