Marc Haeberlin — Kulturforum Illenau, Achern

Renowned Alsatian chef Marc Haeberlin (Auberge de l'Ill) visits the TÊTE À TÊTE series.

Marc Haeberlin represents the fourth generation of chefs at "Auberge de l'Ill" in Illhaeusern. He trained at the hotel school in Strasbourg and gained experience under renowned masters: Paul Bocuse, Jean and Pierre Troisgros, René Lasserre, Gaston Lenôtre... In 1976, he joined his father and uncle at "Auberge de l'Ill". For Marc Haeberlin, perfection is paramount - from dishwashing to the dishes served to guests. The restaurant's clientele is remarkably loyal, coming from Alsace, the United States, and Japan alike. Marc Haeberlin has been a Knight of the "Ordre National du Mérite" since 2001 and a Knight of the "Légion d'Honneur" since 2007. Since October 2001, he has served as the first chairman of "Grandes Tables du Monde" (the world's great tables).

The Haeberlin name stands for culinary excellence not only in France. Auberge de l'Ill is far more than a restaurant. It is where not only French but also German haute cuisine was essentially created. Here, generations of chefs - Eckart Witzigmann, Hans Haas, Otto Fehrenbacher - learned their craft and put Germany on the world's culinary map.
